December, 2005

"A LIVELY BUNCH" wishing you Merry CHRISTmas.

 Dear Friends and Sponsors,

I am praying you and your families are enjoying your celebration of the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  So, I want to say MERRY CHRISTMAS not Happy Holidays as many are doing this year.  As fellow believers, we affirm with you that Jesus is the reason for the season.

Please celebrate with us.  This ministry was launched on January 1, 1996 which means we will be 10 years old and celebrating our 10th Anniversary.  Starting as Medical Marriage and Family Ministries, we revised the name to Medical Mobilizers in January, 2002.  Presently, the name of our non-profit organization is Healthy Initiative Ministries, Inc.  God has blessed with many ministry opportunities.  Pray we will be faithful for many more years.

H.I.M. Board:  Healthy Initiative Ministries, Inc. Board consists of Frederick Hill from Birmingham , Dr. Kevin Cox from Lake Charles , LA and me.  Dr. David MacDonald in Charlottesville , VA is on our Advisory Board.  Valery Olivier is now with us as the director of Haitian Ministries.

PERSONAL NEWS:  Our personal update for you includes our gratefulness for our Father bringing Joshua home from Iraq on November 9th.  We are certainly glad and proud he was able to serve in the Army for our great country and for each of us.  Now he is registered and ready to start college (another war zone these days).  Josh settled on the University of TN in Knoxville with a major in Communications to become a photo journalist.  Pray for this new phase of his development as a fine young man.  We like his long time friend (now girlfriend), Allanah who is a freshman student at UT in Knoxville as well.

Leeann just finished her fall semester making the President’s List for the last two semesters.  (That means she made a 4.0.  Not too bad!!).  We are proud of her strong resolve and ambition to become a fashion designer.  Her ongoing work at Honey Baked Ham has helped her learn some excellent retail skills which will help when she seeks to open her own wedding design shop in Franklin one day.  Her boyfriend, J.J. has been a source of support for her during some busy days lately.  Laura is presently in the 10th grade and enjoying her school, friends and her job at Merridee’s in downtown Franklin .  She is yet to determine what she wants to be when she grows up but there is some time left for those discussions and prayers.  My urgency is to start planning for scholarships since it looks like we will have two kids in college at the same time for many years.  Andrew is enjoying the 8th grade. He is taking some classes outside the home for the first time.  He is still an avid soccer and baseball player.  He is not playing hockey this year but still enjoys the sport.  Andy is really enjoying having his big brother home.  They have plans for some backpacking and hunting trips.  Penny is still the hard working Mom and wife.  She still homeschools but also serving many others who love her high energy and high quality house cleaning services.  Penny helps with the kitchen services at our church as well.  I am praying she will soon take on the work of our Juice Plus home virtual franchise business.  We are excited about helping people improve their health while helping us with some extra income.  You can find the link for our Juice Plus business on our ministry web site.

As for me (Ron), these are busy days.  I now enjoy going to work each day at Faith Financial Planners / Research Institute for Corporate Accountability (RICA) as a marketing specialist and life insurance coordinator.  The web sites are www.faithfinancialplanners.com and www.RICAonline.com .   Half of my work is based on commissions so I will be grateful when this part of my “tentmaking” job develops.  I am considering helping to market some personnel management services to physicians. My marketing work for FFP involves promoting Values-Based Investing services especially for Christian colleges and organizations.  All of this is ministry as well but it causes me to devote time for H.I.M. related ministries to evenings and weekends.  Are your personal values reflected with your investment dollars? Do you know? Should you care?  Call Ron at 615-224-2846 if interested in these services.

These are challenging times when we have to strive to remind so many of the real reason for the season.  Be aware that the cultural war is raging and many of us are being called / deployed for the battle.  Don Wildmon with the American Family Association (www.afa.net) is calling for a Project Merry Christmas campaign.  In their words, a campaign “that will ask people during the Christmas season next year to keep the giving of purchased gifts only for children. They will ask others that, in lieu of buying gifts, to donate what they would normally spend on gifts to help the poor and needy. If someone absolutely wants to give a gift because it brings so much joy, we ask that they give non-purchased gifts to adults. For instance, give a gift which doesn't involve much money such as one they made or even a gift of their time to help someone.

This seems rather radical or even “revolutionary”.  Be sure to read George Barna’s book – Revolution, Finding Vibrant Faith Beyond the Walls of the Sanctuary”.  I don’t think you will be disappointed.  The nature of the Church (the people of God) is changing at the present time.   Personally, I am probably a “revolutionary” who has simply sought to be faithful to the call of God to proclaim the good news of Jesus in the marketplace.    I am quite convinced and optimistic that God is in control.  We may see some changes in church membership and attendance according to Barna who has been a strong voice for Christians for many years.

You may have noticed our gradual transition from Medical Mobilizers to Healthy Initiative Ministries.  Without boring you with details, the simple explanation for this situation is that all we were seeking to accomplish with Christian Wellness Association and WellLIFE Centers will best be accomplished under a for-profit umbrella.   So those are with Healthy Initiatives, Inc. at www.healthyinitiatives.com.   Consequently, we have re-inherited the non-profit that was given up to H.I.M..   Medical Mobilizers, Inc. will be offered under the H.I.M. umbrella.

NEEDED  Please consider donating a car that H.I.M. can either use as needed or sell for additional operating funds.  We may need a car or two soon.   You will receive a tax receipt as we are a non-profit organization.

Navigator’s Physicians Discipleship Conference - Feb 23-26 (Thursday-Sunday) with DWIGHT HILL.  Register at www.gleneyrie.org or call 800-944-GLEN (4536) or 719-634-0808.  Email -geg.reservations@navigators.org.  You won’t regret taking some time for this great conference at such a beautiful conference center in Colorado Springs .

Global Missions Health Conference – This annual conference offered again at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville during November 10-12 was awesome.  This has become an Urbana type of missions conference for all kinds of health students.   About 3,000 people attended this conference with excellent speakers and over 130 exhibitors.   We were there with a booth for Medical Mobilizers promoting our mission of helping to “Mobilize Medical Professionals for Ministry and Missions”.  We also promoted the ministry of Friend Ships (www.friendships.org). Your support helped us to encourage many students and others seeking to find a mission opportunity. We typically help those who are first time short-term medical missionaries.  www.medicalmissions.com is their site for more information about this awesome conference so you can make plans to attend next year.

Healthcare Coverage:  I recently passed the Life and Health Insurance exam and now licensed in TN and now have an appointment as a general agent with Assurant Health to market a variety of health insurance products but mainly HSAs (Health Saving Accounts).  I strongly believe this is one of the essential solutions for our present health care system.   There are some options for Christians for real effective healthcare coverage.  Some are membership driven with mutual sharing of costs.   Each organization seeks to offer Biblical counsel and prayer support.  Monthly shares are paid either directly to other members in need or to a central office and handled similar to any traditional insurance company.  Millions of dollars are saved using these plans as the organizations are non-profit in structure.  Thousands are enjoying the benefits of these plans.  Call me at 615-238-4035 for advice in this matter.

H.I.M. - Haitian Ministries
A new and very exciting development is being called “Haitian Ministries”.  Please pray for Valery Olivier, a 30 year old man of God who is a native of Haiti , is our staff director of this new outreach.  The mission of Haitian Ministries is “Providing Education, Training and Healthy Initiatives for Haitians for the Glory of God”.  Valery’s wife, Micka, and their four children, are in Haiti while Valery is presently in the United States  preparing and planning for ministry.  God is blessing some great planning for a strong ministry in Haiti and hopefully to Haitians now living in the States.  We eagerly welcome your prayer and financial support for Valery and Micka and our Haitian Ministries.

Our first priority is to provide educational opportunities.  Secondly, we sense that job training is very essential and one goal is to offer job training in an educational setting.  As a ministry, we could seek to give fish to hungry people in need.  A better plan, especially for Haiti , is to provide people with a fishing rod so they can learn how to provide fish for themselves.  I think we have found our first of many projects to help accomplish our mission.  We have been looking for some good fishing rods.  We are having some discussions for Will Austin with the Institute for Affordable Transportation to set up an assembly factory to provide the Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) which is an awesome solution to so many basic needs.  IAT is a not-for-profit public charity devoted to developing high-quality, low-cost transportation for the working poor in the developing countries.  You can find them on the web at www.drivebuv.org.

IAT’s mission is to improve living standards and enable economic growth in the developing world by creating a simple vehicle that can be assembled almost anywhere, by almost anyone.  The BUV is a “vehicle for change” that will help meet people’s everyday needs at the ends of the earth.  In our mission to provide education, training and healthy initiatives, we sense an affiliation with IAT is ideal.  The wealthy can lend a compassionate hand to the poor as commanded by Scripture to provide a tool which offers the hope of economic growth and dignity of work. This will be done by providing the funds for BUVs and eventually for a factory in Haiti to build and export these very useful vehicles to neighboring countries.  Our aim is to help network with many ministries and US based churches and organizations that can make it possible to help us advance the use of these BUVs in Haiti .  We want to provide job training for permanent jobs thus strengthening these workers and their families.  This economic empowerment will be done in the context of spiritual growth so that the Gospel is proclaimed when possible and the Church in Haiti is strengthened.

The cost is about $1500 per BUV in an unassembled kit.  The assembled unit is about double ($2900).  I am praying we can send ten units to Haiti with the next Friend Ships mission trip heading back to Haiti this spring.  Web site is www.friendships.org .    That means we need to raise at least $15,000 by March 1.    The fact is we probably need about $50,000 to get this project launched.  Once launched, it will be self sustaining and actually creating valuable funds for many ministries.  We are praying you will be generous to help us establish an effective solution – one that will teach people to fish for themselves.

BUVs can be used for delivery service, bus service, ambulance, and for general purposes as a basic utility vehicle.  The BUV can be used to assist community development by powering generators, water pumps, corn mills, cement mixers, saw mills and air compressors by v-belt.  They are used to develop micro-businesses.  BUVs are simply building blocks for opportunity - a tool that can help people help themselves.  They can help children with educational needs; sick and elderly with access to healthcare; HIV/AIDS work; farmers and porters with transporting produce to the markets; missionaries with valuable transportation to serve their community; to aid women to do their daily work in less time to have more time for their family needs, and much more.  Keep in mind that in most cultures including the Haitian culture, women are typically responsible for transporting produce and taking care of family members.

Healthy Initiatives includes physical, emotional, relational and spiritual initiatives.  BUVs can be a tool to help develop healthy initiatives or faith-based whole-person care.    Our plan which is being developed will include offering job training with the proposed BUV assembly plants in our educational services.  The plan is to work out a ministry partnership relationship with IAT.  We will determine the necessary costs and then seek for sponsors to implement this plan.  I hesitate to state the necessary costs at this time.   This is a long-term project - one that will help develop micro-enterprises for a real solution to a very critical need for the Haitian people.  All for the Glory of God.

We will need individual sponsors as well as corporate sponsors.  We will keep you updated in this regular newsletter.  We can be of help.   You can help us get this launched by sending some seed funds.  You can designate your gift for this project on the commitment form below.

Recommended Resources:
Book:  Revolution by George Barna.
Pub. by Tyndale House Publishers, 2005.  (Subtitle: Worn Out on Church?  Finding Vibrant Faith Beyond the Walls of the Sanctuary) Author of 35 books, Barna has been hailed as “the most quoted person in the Christian Church today and one of its most influential leaders.  Change is upon the Church.  We have prayed for a revival but it looks like we may have a Revolution instead.  People who are growing frustrated within the traditional established Church are choosing to BE the Church instead.  Barna says the hidden Revolution will impact every Christian believer in America .  Devout “revolutionaries” are abandoning the local church building seeking to be more like Jesus – The Revolutionary.  The challenge of the true Christ led Church is to respond appropriately.  It is time to have some open and honest discussions in these exciting days.  Change is not always bad.

Book:  Simple Health  by David Biebel, DMin and Harold Koenig, MD.   Pub. by Siloam – A Strang Company, 2005. These men of God offer a simple-to-understand and easy-to-practice book on wellness that will clear the confusion about fad diets, unnecessary supplementation, and alternative therapies.  This book helps you discover practical steps to optional health – something most of us desire.  David and I have been friends and ministry colleagues for many years.  (Their recent book titled New Light on Depression just won a Gold Medallion Award.)

The Truth ProjectIt is good to know that you know that you know – if you know what I mean!   What is a Biblical worldview?  Del Tackett, VP of Focus on the Family, a friend from our days at Village Seven Presbyterian in Colorado Springs , has launched a great ministry called The Truth Project.  The Truth Project is a DVD-based small group curriculum comprised of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This home study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life. Go to www.thetruthproject.org  and consider these valuable resources.

Book:  One Heartbeat Away – Your Journey Into Eternity by Mark Cahill.  Pub. by BDM Publishing.  Order copies at www.markcahill.org.  Mark is an excellent speaker.  As an apologist and evangelist, he presents a creditable argument for the claims of Christ.  He has great rapport with our youth.  A great speaker for high school graduations!

Be Thankful For:
*
the birth of Jesus Christ – He is the reason for EVERY season as He is Lord of all.
*  the joy that we can participate in advancing God’s Kingdom on earth.
*  our families and loved ones and for God’s family called the Church.
*  the opportunity we each have to participate in ministry opportunities. Please consider being a part of what God is doing through H.I.M. by mailing in the form below with your donation. Thanks in advance.

Dear Friends and Sponsors,                                                                           Ron Lively, Exec. Director

A special thanks to those of you who faithfully support us as a family to help accomplish the mission of Medical Mobilizers which is to help mobilize medical professionals for ministry and missions.  I will be highlighting some recent activities and new developments.  We need your prayers and support. God is continuing to use our time and talents in various ways for His Glory.

*************************************************************************************************************

Personal News:  On a personal note, by God’s grace, the Lively family is healthy and continues to step out in faith each day trusting God who is faithful to His promises.  We obviously have normal needs as well as some unique challenges in our daily walk.  God is good and His love for us is what compels us to want to serve Him as He has called us to do – not to earn any merits or firm up our salvation as only the Cross of Christ can accomplish that for us.  So we continue to take our needs and praises to Christ for God’s Glory and for the advancement of God’s Kingdom.

We love our church ( Christ Community Church ).  Franklin , TN is a beautiful place to live even if there is so much affluency here which makes it a challenge at times since we live on a missionary’s income.  There are challenges living among affluency as there is among poverty.  The Enemy wants our hearts and our kid’s hearts wherever we live.

Our two youngest (Laura – 15, a sophomore & Andrew -13, 8th grade) are busy with home school studies and activities as well as sports.  Andrew is playing baseball and both play soccer.  Leeann is now a senior about to become a fashion designer.  Look for her label soon.  Joshua is scheduled to be home from Iraq around the first of November.   He is finishing a six month duty with the Army National Guard.  He plans to enter college next fall.  He has a girlfriend who is a freshman at UT in Knoxville so he has another reason why he thinks he wants to go to University of TN Knoxville NEEDEDJoshua has saved up to buy a better car when he gets home.  If anyone would like to donate a suitable car that our ministry can then sell to him, please let me know.  You will receive a tax receipt, our ministry gets the extra cash for operating needs and Joshua gets a car for his needs.

Penny has a very active schedule as usual with home schooling (she does almost all of this) along with several organizing/cleaning jobs.  I have started working part-time for Faith Financial Planners / RICA here in Franklin .  Go to www.faithfinancialplanners.com and www.ricaonline.com

Healthy Initiative Ministries (H.I.M.) is a platform and covering for a nationwide outreach...bringing together healthy related ministries and organizations under its banner, or in collaboration, to fulfill its mission of promoting optimal whole-person wellness through Biblical principles and a Christ-centered foundation.  There are currently four H.I.M. ministries.  Christian Wellness Association (CWA on the web at www.christianwellness.org) has a mission of "Motivating, educating, and equipping health, fitness & wellness professionals to integrate their faith into their daily work...promoting optimal health through Biblical principles and a Christ-centered foundation”.  Medical Mobilizers (MM) which grew out of The Navigators in 1996 is about “Mobilizing Medical Professionals for Ministry and Missions” (www.medicalmobilizers.org).  WellLIFE Centers is The Christian alternative to secular health/fitness clubs offering Biblically based whole person wellness with a goal of developing a variety of centers including integrated health and wellness centers.  Under development is Marriage Growth Ministries (MGM) which has a mission of “Growing Healthy Marriages and Families”. This will be coming up on the web at www.marriagegrowth.org soon.   Ron can be reached at 615-238-4035 or at ron@medicalmobilizers.org or at rlively@christianwellness.org

Faith Financial Planners / Research Institute for Corporate Accountability – I am now working for FFP to help supplement our financial support.  God has opened a door to use my skills & experiences.  Go to www.faithfinancialplanners.com and www.ricaonline.com. I am helping with the RICA research, marketing of the Life Program and of FFP’s services.  I am scheduled to go study for my health and life license soon.  We are promoting Values-Based Investing across the country and have a growing network of financial advisors & insurance agents.  We aim to offer some advanced financial services for medical professionals. Are your personal values reflected with your investment dollars? Do you know? Should you care?  Call 615-224-2846 if interested in these services.

Christian Wellness Association continues as a valuable web based resource to help promote wellness in various ways.  Go to www.christianwellness.org and especially to our Well Resources.  Please share this with your friends who are committed to physical, emotional, relational and spiritual wellness.   NOTE:  Healthy Initiative Ministries is seeking health/wellness professional that would like to undertake the ministry of Christian Wellness Association - must be called of God to this ministry and able to financially support its further growth.  Please contact admin@christianwellness.org for additional information.

Medical Missions:

Go to Medical Disaster Relief - Resources & Opportunities on our web site for updates.

Franklin Humanitarian Task Force:   God blessed our efforts to set up a large Red Cross shelter here in Franklin for evacuees.  I was asked to serve on this task force to help mobilize the medical professionals for the in-house medical clinic and mental health professionals.  Next project is to complete the Medical Disaster Relief database so that we will be more ready to respond to another disaster like the two hurricanes.

Mobile Medical Unit:  One of the main emergency needs in those areas of MS hardest hit by hurricane Katrina is for health care. Voice of Calvary Family Health Center (VOCFHC) based in Jackson , MS has been blessed by God to have the use of a mobile medical unit. In partnership with World Vision, the Rotary Clubs of Modesto, CA and Hattiesburg , MS , and the Jackson Medical Mall have now sent this unit to the coastal areas of Mississippi . VOCFHC will have use of this unit as long as needed during the relief efforts in Mississippi . They especially need volunteer medical personnel who would like to help them in the medical outreach efforts along the Mississippi Gulf Coast . If you would like to volunteer, please call Ron at 615-238-4035 for more information.

Global Missions Health Conference – This annual conference will be offered again at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville during November 10-12.  Over 2300 people attend this awesome medical missions conference.  They have excellent speakers and over 100 exhibitors.  We plan to share our booth with Friend Ships (www.friendships.org) again this year.  Medical Mobilizers / CWA needs $700 to cover necessary expenses for this event.  Your gifts will help us encourage many students and others seeking to find a mission opportunity.  It will also help FriendShips as they seek to recruit medical professionals and others to help them offer disaster relief and humanitarian aid where needed.  You can read about their work on the Gulf Coast, Israel, Haiti , and more.  Go to www.medicalmissions.com for more information about this awesome conference.  You need to register early as this conference usually fills up each year.

DearFriends,

I turned 53 years young recently (June 23rd) so I am beginning to feel some effects of aging here but what just happened as I sat down to write this update tested my heart in a new way.  It is a new day when you can take out your laptop and set down in the grass near a baseball field and type a newsletter like this one or write replies to emails and more.  I had an hour to two to spend while waiting on Andrew at an all stars baseball practice.  One of God’s interesting creatures, a small but probably very powerful black and white skunk, walked right up to me, stopped inches from my feet and sniffed at my toes.  I immediately stopped breathing and froze before he decided to move on past me.  Since I had sandals on, maybe the smell of my toes was too much for a skunk!  I didn’t move or take a breath for several minutes before I had the guts to slowly turn around to see if this innocent and somewhat cute creature had indeed moved on into the adjoining woods.  What was that all about?

Added to that experience was the horrific scare the day before on Sunday afternoon when my car barely missed colliding into some cars on the I-75 near Chattanooga as Andrew and I were returning from watching the Braves beat the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday afternoon in Atlanta . (Braves won 8-1)  Doesn’t it amaze you how drivers have to slow down and even come to a complete stop to view a wreck on the other side of the interstate?  After going in a slide I swerved into the passing lane and barely missed another car.   So – God got my attention twice.  And he got my unending praise and thanks more than twice.  These surprise attacks or near death or accident experiences come in quick and unexpected ways like a surprise attack.  We sometimes say that someone died an unexpected death.  Unexpected to us maybe - but not to our sovereign Father.  Nothing takes Him by surprise.  Do you believe this?

It seems many of our friends are dealing with so many challenges or surprise attacks.  Why?  Pray that God who has equipped us will give us the opportunity to encourage others.  Getting sprayed by a friendly skunk may not have been life threatening but it would have really slowed down my busy life this week.  Maybe this month!   I think the lesson is that most of our life is so controlled and scheduled; we need some reminders, maybe a surprise attack, now and then to help us realize that we are not in control of much in our daily lives.   Have you had a friendly or not so friendly skunk sniff your toes lately?  What’s your story of God’s mercy and grace?  Are you telling someone about it?  Telling others might strengthen their faith as well as yours.  We are really proclaiming God’s goodness not ours.  Maybe our reluctance to “testify” is because we don’t really believe God is sovereign.

Some Scripture verses that help in times of need are:
(Psa 34:17 NIV)  “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.”

(Psalm 34:19 NIV)  “A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all.

(Psa 50:15 NIV)  “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

(Psa 147:3 NIV)  “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

(Mat 11:28 NIV)  "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

(Phil 4:19 NIV)  “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.”

(2 Cor 12:9 NIV)   "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.”

Please pray for Joshua in Iraq – Joshua was deployed to Iraq on April 12th.  He turned 19 on 4/22.  He is now doing Special Forces work in the city of Tuz .  He will probably be in Iraq until December.  He would love to hear from you.  Care packages / letters can be mailed to:   Pv2 Lively, Joshua, W., HHT 2/278 Scouts, FOB Bernstein, APO AE 09374.  His email address is joshua.w.lively@us.army.mil.  His IM address is Tsigeyua.  We are very proud of how Joshua chose to serve us and our country in this time of need.  We are confident in God’s sovereignty and constant care over our oldest son.  We are encouraged that the Church (God’s people) are praying for and encouraging Joshua at this time.

   Executive Summary
This summary was requested by an online news service recently.   It offers a good summary of the structure of our overall approach to our ministries being developed:

    *  Rev. Ron Lively (ordained by Mississippi Valley Presbytery of the PCA in 1983 and currently a member of Christ Community Church in Franklin, TN) is working with Jim Nash in Columbus, Ohio to develop a growing network of  marketplace ministries under the umbrella of Healthy Initiative Ministries which you can find at www.christianwellness.org. There are currently four H.I.M. ministries.  Christian Wellness Association (CWA) has a mission of "Motivating, educating, and equipping health, fitness & wellness professionals to integrate their faith into their daily work...promoting optimal health through Biblical principles and a Christ-centered foundation”. Ron can be reached at 615-238-4035 or at rlively@christianwellness.org

What is Marriage Growth Ministries (MGM)?
The US Dept of HHS Administration for Children and Families is offering grant funding through the Human Service Compassion Capital Fund(CCF) Demonstration Program to launch Healthy Marriage Initiative programs.  After four weeks of dedicated work, we wrote a grant proposal to apply for funding to develop MGM.    Healthy Initiative Ministries (H.I.M.) is a provider of high-quality, high-value & Biblically-based whole person health, fitness and wellness programs & services.   The mission of Marriage Growth Ministries – H.I.M.  is “Growing Healthy Marriages and Families”.    We seek to encourage, equip and mobilize professionals and non-professionals who can offer various levels of marriage programs.

Marriage Growth Ministries aims to:
* Offer relational, marriage and family retreats as well as our marriage coaching clinics.
* Train lay leaders (non-professionals) to offer marriage education services.
* Offer the benefits and resources of PREP, Inc. - a research-based program.
* Offer educational meetings for marriage researchers to share their work and needs.
* Provide data for marital researchers (PREP)
* Help start Community Healthy Marriage Initiatives (CHMI)
* Help educate the public about the positive outcomes associated with healthy marriages.
* Provide marriage educational services that teach individuals and couples the basic relationship skills and knowledge researchers have found help couples to form and sustain healthy marriages.

We agree that marriage education and various other parenting and family enrichment services as well as marriage mentoring is needed.  We are building on the history of offering many Marriage Growth Conferences, Family Growth Conferences and Relational Growth Retreats.  With funding, MGM will be in a position to offer coaching clinics and seminars; resources; counsel and coaching to individuals seeking to be equipped and mobilized to better implement healthy marriage initiatives.   As educators (coaches), the staff of Marriage Growth Ministries will be helping to grow healthy marriages and families by coaching local community leaders.  Most organizations cannot afford to hire trained marriage and family counselors or professionals.   We will offer a variety of coaching clinics.  The typical format will be a half day clinic offered regularly as needed with the plan to serve as ongoing coaches or consultants to local community leaders.  Our plan includes starting with leadership of several collaborative relationships in the Middle TN area initially and then nationwide with the necessary funding.  We will work closely with the growing network and membership of the Christian Wellness Association.

NEEDED: Funding from this grant if warded will be 80% of the proposed budget.   We have to produce the required match of 20% which will be approximately $100,000.   Please help support this new outreach that could provide resources, ministry, coaching and more to many in need.   Children in single parent homes are exhibiting many more challenges and needs than those in healthy marriages and families.  The hope is that these kinds of programs will help strengthen society so that these children will grow up with far less needs. Please make checks payable to H.I.M. /MGM designated for Marriage Growth Ministries.

2005 Global Missions Health Conference – This annual conference will be offered again at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville during November 10-12.  Over 2300 people attend this awesome medical missions conference.  They have excellent speakers and over 100 exhibitors.  We plan to share our booth with Friend Ships (www.friendships.org) again this year.  Funding of $700 is needed.  Your gifts will help us encourage many students and others seeking to find a mission opportunity.  It will also help FriendShips as they seek to recruit medical professionals and others to help them offer disaster relief and humanitarian aid where needed.  Go to www.medicalmissions.com for more information.

West Virginia Trips.   God has blessed two recent trips to Cross Lanes in the Charleston area of West Virginia .  Dr. Greg Stonestreet hosted these events.  We need your prayers as we seek to develop “integrated healthy and wellness centers”.

Andrew’s Mission Trip To WV - Andrew, our “almost 13 year old son” is about to take a junior high missions trip to my home state of WV.  They leave on July 11th and return on the 16th to do some work in Panther,  WV which is in the southern part of the state.  This is the youth group at Christ Community Church that supports an active domestic and foreign missions program.  Andrew needs our financial and prayer support for this trip – his fourth mission trip.  They will doing home repair helping low-income families, the disabled and the elderly with basic necessities they lack due to economic and physical situation.  They will also offer a Vacation Bible School .   We need to raise approximately $500 for this trip. If you are able to send financial support, please make you checks payable to Medical Mobilizers and send them to P.O. Box 682385 , Franklin , TN   37068-2385 . You will receive a tax receipt.  Please write “Missions Trip – Andrew” on the memo line of the check.

Donated Vehicles – 340,000 miles and going strong.   The 1992 Toyota Camry is hanging in there but the time will come soon to need an updated vehicle.   David & Beverly Kinsey in Atlanta donated this car a couple of years ago after a minor front end collision.  H.I.M. can offer you a tax receipt.  If your donated car, truck or van – whatever is not needed, we can sell it and use the funds for our operating budget.  We will take it as a donated vehicle which saves you the challenge of selling it.  Making this kind of donation helps all of us.

Funding Needed:  Your financial gifts help to make our ministry continue to grow and offer services.  God is blessing with many new ways to accomplish our mission.   Please join our financial or prayer support team so we can serve more faithfully in our work.  Please pray how God would lead you to become a donor or prayer supporter.   Use our Commitment Form below to help us encourage and equip more for Christ.

MedicalMobilizers.org Update
Written by Ron Lively, M.Div., M.A. , Executive Director

Lively Update - April & May, 2005                                                                                                                                                                                                       Ron Lively - Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Galatians 5:6 – “the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love”.  God is doing some awesome things these days.  Change is happening all around us.  People are being challenged to show their faith through expressions of love.  Not our love for Christ but His love for us – that seems to be what motivates us the most.  Doors of opportunities are opening.  We are blessed as we eagerly walk with our Lord going where He is going and doing what He wants done working on His agenda, His Plan – not ours.  Please know we are grateful for your prayers and support.

I hope you enjoy this new format.  As you may know already, I am wired as a global networker so there are multiple items highlighted such as Ministry, Upcoming Events & Travels, Recommended Resources, Prayer Requests, Personal News, and more.  We are under the umbrella of Healthy Initiative Ministries. I serve as the executive director of both Medical Mobilizers and the Christian Wellness Association which you can find at ChristianWellness.org.  We are aggressively seeking to establish some WellLIFE Centers.   I will be writing about these various ministries under H.I.M.

Personal News: (Some of you tell me that this is what you want to read first, so here are some brief updates)

Ron – Collar bone about healed.  Excited about ministry opportunities.  Praying for a great garden this year.
Penny – Pray for adjustment of meds for hypothyroid problems and to deal with Joshua being in Iraq .
Leeann – Moved into a downtown Franklin duplex.  Made Dean’s list again.  Secured a fashion design internship.

Joshua – Was deployed to Iraq on April 12th.  Turns 19 on 4/22.  Email Josh at joshua.w.lively@us.army.mil

Laura – Turned 15 and wants a driving permit..  Plans to play softball.  Hopes to work in a restaurant this summer.

Andrew– Playing baseball now.  Great pitcher.  Will make a great coach one day.  Our youngest will be teenager this fall.

Upcoming Events & Travels:

* April 29-30 in Charleston, WV to meet with Dr. Greg Stonestreet and friends along with the Board of www.BelieveinWV.org about establishing a WellLIFE Center in Cross Lanes and possibly other key cities in WV.

*  May 23-24 in Miami for the Governor’s Obesity Summit -www.doh.state.fl.us/Family/obesity/Summit/Summit.html

*  Fall, 2005 – Franklin , TN.   Tentative plans to offer a Christ & the Healing Arts Conference titled:  “Terri Schiavo – So What?  - A Spiritual, Social & Cultural Assessment for Individuals, Families, Government and the Church”

Ministry:

Mission Statements:  Do you know you church’s mission?  I challenged members of our Sunday School class to memorize the mission of Christ Community Church in Franklin, TN which is “Christ Community Church is called by the God of all grace for the transforming of life in Middle Tennessee-- spiritually, socially and culturally-- through the power of the Gospel--from Franklin to the nations of the world--all to the glory of God”.  (Yes, I typed this from memory).  I challenge you to memorize your church’s mission statement which will help you be more effective in fulfilling that mission.

Haiti – Rev. Dony St. Germain has a great ministry as the PCA - MNA director for Haiti .   Dony heads up a ministry called El Shaddai Ministries Int’l. on the web at esmihome.org  They have a medical clinic in Cayes.  Medical professionals are needed at various times.  Check their web site for dates of projects or contact me for some coaching services.

Funding Needed:  We are excited about new ministry opportunities.  Please join our financial or prayer support team so we can serve more faithfully in our work.  Ten new donors are needed at this time.  Please pray how God would lead you to become a donor or prayer supporter.   Use our Commitment Form to help us encourage and equip many for Christ.

BelieveinWV.org  along with Dr. Greg Stonestreet has invited Jim Nash and me to my home state of WV later this month to see how a WellLIFE Center might match their vision to offer a wellness ministry.  Believe in WV Leadership Foundation is seeking to steward their funds for Kingdom projects.  They have developed a patented process  to convert low grade coal into coal pitch that can be used to manufacture many products.  Dr. Stonestreet’s goal is to develop an integrated health and wellness whole person community ministry that could be duplicated in key cities of WV.  Please pray for our time with these men and women of God on April 29-30 as we seek to discern God’s will in this matter.  This opportunity is surprisingly stirring up feelings to appreciate my “roots” in the hills of this beautiful but economically strained state.

FriendShips.org based in Lake Charles , LA has plans to take their second trip to Israel .  You can read the specifics on their web site.  Please pray for our efforts to assist FS with some grant writing services with the help of Frederick Hill who is now a sales consultant / evaluator for TMS-eval.org.  There are a number of possibilities to consider such as the development of more surgical containers, pharmacy packs, HIV testing kits, etc.. Pray for Dr Ty Hopkins, medical director for Friend Ship, in making these decisions.  You can reach Frederick for his grant services at SocietyForDevelopment.org

Florida’s Secretary of Health – Secretary's Obesity Summit
.  Healthy Initiative Ministries was asked to provide three speakers for this important summit where the Faith Based Organizations are being asked for practical ways to collaborate as well as report on successful accomplishments.  We are pleased to report that Dr. Walt Larimore ( Colorado Springs ), Dr. Jody Wilkinson ( Dallas ) and Dr. David MacDonald ( Charlottesville , VA ) will be our speakers for this very important summit.  This is the fourth and final of the Secretary's Obesity Summit titled:  Solutions for Families, Communities & Faith-Based Organizations which is scheduled for Monday, May 23, 2005 at the Radisson Mart Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in Miami , Florida . The event is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This final summit promises to share innovative strategies and approaches made within communities, families and faith-based organizations interested in addressing and reducing the effects of overweight and obesity in Florida . The goal of these summits has been to generate local dialogue to promote local action on this epidemic and continue the work initiated by Governor’s Task Force on the Obesity Epidemic.    Consider coming by registering online at www.doh.state.fl.us/Family/obesity/Summit/Summit.html.

Mission to the World – Medical Missions:  Go to MTW.org  and click on Ministries then Medical Missions.

Christ & The Healing Arts Conference - Terri Schiavo / So What?  Please pray for plans to offer a conference this fall here in Franklin , TN.   As we did annually in Jackson, MS, we are praying about bringing together theologians, pastors, ethicists, physicians and others to look at the Spiritual, Social and Cultural Implications of cases like this for individuals, families, government and the Church.  It will probably be offered on a Wed – Thursday.  Call me if this is of interest to you.

Wings of Love Ministry at wingsoflove.org is planning a trip to Haiti on August 13 – 27 this year to provide construction support for the new Children’s Hospital being built by TBN and equipped by Samaritan’s Purse.  They are considering taking a medical team as well.  This new hospital being built by Smile of a Child on the grounds of GraceInternationalhaiti.org will be an awesome asset to this ministry and poor country.   There is a small medical clinic in the gated camp as well.  This is in Carrefour in Port-a-Prince.    One of the physicians with us there in February may help head up a medical team for this trip in August.  Call me for updates on this proposed project or contact Wings of Love.

Values Based Investing (VBI):   To earn additional financial support (Tentmaking), I am presently working part-time as an internet researcher and evaluation for RICA -Research Institute for Corporate Responsibility.   I have been asked to also help market the new program called the RICA Profiler to money managers – to anyone who invests funds for themselves or others.  The mission of RICA is “Providing Research and Data Analysis for Values Based Investing in Corporate Responsibilities”.  Promise Keepers will be promoting this valuable resource in all 20 PK conferences this summer as well as on their web site as they challenge men of integrity to match their investment dollars with their personal values.  For more information, RICAOnline.com will be up on the web soon. Call me if more information is needed.

Recommended Resources:

Check out ByFaithonline.com which is the new magazine and online service offered by the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA).  Excellent articles for everyone as well as some news about events within the PCA.

SamaritanMinistries.org is another Biblical way to deal with a health care crisis.  This 8 year old ministry helps members with medical burdens without the use of the high cost of insurance.  Members currently share $1.5 million by sending their monthly share of $195 for families (less for couples and singles) to the assigned member in need.  Prayer support is probably worth more than the funds to pay the medical bills.  Join more than 10,000 Christian households who are faithfully applying Biblical principles to health care needs by caring, praying and sharing.  I can coach you in this matter.

Leadnet.org is the site for Leadership Network in Dallas .  Bob Buford is chairman of the board of The Buford Foundation/Leadership Network.  A classic entrepreneur, Bob has authored four books - HalfTime, Game Plan, Stuck in Halftime (Zondervan), and Finishing Well (Integrity).  The mission of Leadnet.org is to identify, connect and help high-capacity Christian leaders multiply their impact.  HalfTime.org is another great resource offered by this group. Halftime Ministry seeks to inspire business and professional leaders to embrace God's calling and move from success to significance.

Order of Salutis (Salvation) – How is one saved?  Louis Berkof’s answer (Summary of Christian Doctrine) is worth taking the time to memorize so you can have an intelligent answer when asked about salvation.  The eight steps are:   1. Mystical Union with Christ,  2.  Effectual Calling,  3.  Regeneration,  4.  Conversion by repentance and faith,  5.  Justification, 6. Adoption,  7. Sanctification and  8.  Glorification.  Steps 1-6 can occur in an instant while Step 7 takes a life time.  Step 8  occurs in eternity.  Whatever order you affirm, memorizing it will help you be a more effective witness.

Word for Encouragement:  Galatians 6:6-10

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

A Lively Update for February-March, 2005

Dear Friends,

Report on Recent Medical Mission Trip to Haiti with Friend Ships

This was an awesome trip! I was privileged to go to Haiti - a poor, needy country for seven days from February 5th to 12th. We worked in Carrefour in Port-au-Prince, the capital city of Haiti. Words cannot describe what we saw nor what we accomplished. You can go to www.friendships.org and click on the Haiti report to read more about this trip. (Note: see Urgent Prayer request for crew member Stuart Ver Wys below)

First, why would I respond to God’s call to go on such a high risk mission to Haiti? There are various reasons. One is that I really need to see various works such as this in order to better fulfill the mission of Medical Mobilizers. However, the greater reason can be found in II Timothy 2:1-7 which summarized says that "The strong grace-driven discipler or mentor is to be faithful in teaching reliable men so that they too will be like a loyal and faithful soldier seeking to obey his commanding officer, like an athlete who plays by the proper rules, like a hardworking farmer being the first to share the fruit of his crops, that is - all seeking the reward of seeing lives changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It seems that all 120 or so people on this mission trip constantly observed ways where the good news of Jesus changed lives - not just here on earth but for eternity.

By God’s grace, I helped to get four of five of the twenty medical professionals there who saw over 6,000 patients. Over 1,000 prayed to trust Christ as Lord and Savior. Every patient was given the opportunity to seek a personal relationship with Christ. Personally I prayed with a few who clearly indicated they wished to know Jesus in a personal way. One was a young lady who had just received news from the doctor that she had AIDS. Another was a young girl who still needs hip surgery in order to walk. (I now have an orthopedic surgeon willing to go with me on the next trip to Haiti). We had one birth of a first time Mom who was in labor for three days. We had a two-month old baby almost die after surgery to remove a large throat cyst.  The highly competent and dedicated physicians, nurses and trained assistants did excellent work in sustaining this baby's life monitoring the baby for about 3 days.

With one of their large 1940's military cargo ships, which I was able to tour, the volunteer Friend Ships crew took down donated food, clothing, fire trucks, ambulances, a bus, three trucks, etc. Over 5,000 TONS of cargo was given to Bishop Joel and Doris Jeune with Grace International , Inc.(www.graceinternationalhaiti.org).  Bishop Jeune is responsible for more than 270 churches. Their ministry includes 3 orphanages for abandoned children, over 65 schools with thousands in attendance and a home for elderly widows. They offer a feeding program which feeds over 3,000 children and adults daily. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the central element of their curriculum for over 65 schools - an effort to fight illiteracy. They provide adult learning classes to combat the 80% adult illiteracy population - the largest in the western hemisphere. They work with Samaritan’s Purse - Operation Christmas Child and with Jan Crouch’s Smile of a Child to distribute over 40,000 shoe boxes and toys to children in Haiti. In their expanding Medical Outreach, they offer a certified medical and dental clinic on site to provide quality care for the poor. People of all ages come to receive treatments for their most common diseases, such as malaria, hernias, fevers, diarrhea, tuberculosis, and cholera. They also offer HIV testing and dental services. In cooperation with (TBN), Jan Crouch' s Smile of a Child (a not-for-profit organization assisting less fortunate children around the world), and Franklin Graham with Samaritan’s Purse, they are currently building a large hospital to care for the children in Haiti. The ministry of Grace International is extensive with a mission to provide aid to the suffering men, women and children of Haiti.

The pastors who attended a week long conference in week one of this three week mission were given dated tickets to distribute to their most needy people in their community. They also distributed the food and supplies to those in need in all of their various congregations. A lot of cargo went up to Gonaives in the northern part of the country where over 2,000 died in Hurricane Ivan. All in all, what was done was accomplished by God’s grace through the pastors. Hopefully the Church in Haiti will be strengthened as a result.

We stayed in a large enclosed compound (Grace Camp) which had a medical clinic, school, orphanage, large open church facility and more. We had UN soldiers (all from Sri Lanka) accompanied us with machine guns the whole time. This was essential for many reasons. I am so thankful for our police force, sewer and water systems, garbage systems, grocery stores, gas stations, cars and ROADS here in the States. Amazingly, some of these soldiers asked to have a Bible so they could know of the love of Jesus whom they saw we loved and served because of His love.

Are we more blessed in the USA? Yes, in many ways, but I wonder if we are in other ways. I met some very mature and seasoned men of God. I hope to help mentor about 10 young men who are still dreaming for great opportunities at the young age of 25 to 28. They will probably not be able to get sponsored or the necessary scholarships to come to United States for an education. An education there evidently doesn’t mean as much. I suggested we help them set up a computer lab and some computer related businesses to help promote sponsorship of the churches and orphanages in need of funds. They can get internet access on a limited basis at an internet café. Most of these men probably don't have effective mentors to coach them with a philosophy of creating a business that will help them make the most of their life of hardship and struggles.

One highlight was meeting Rebeca - a beautiful and sweet orphaned 8 year old girl whom our family is now sponsoring. She is fully sponsored financially. What was needed was some personal sponsorship to send a birthday present or a care package 3 or 4 times a year to let her know she is prayed for and loved as a child of God who loves Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Rebeca was overwhelmed with joy at this news. She is about the same age as our Lacey would have been (this was our 5th child who died from a miscarriage just after we moved to Colorado).

What will be my role in the future? As I mentioned, Jan Crouch with TBN’s Smile of a Child with the help of Franklin Graham / The Samaritan’s Purse is building a large pediatric hospital in this gated camp. I was asked to help recruit / mobilize medical professionals (pediatric physicians and nurses particularly) for this hospital when it opens this summer or fall. You can see the updates on this on the TBN broadcasts on TV or go to www.tbn.org or www.smileofachild.org. Please contact me if you sense God’s call to go and serve in this hospital which will be a huge source of light spiritually to so many in need in the midst of darkness.

Our whole team consisted of about 120 individuals from several ministries. The ALERT program was truly awesome. Their program is very Biblically based. I want to sign up my youngest son for this great discipleship based training. Go to for more information. ALERT had 47 strong disciplined young men ages 18 and older along with their major and captains. Friend Ships could not have accomplished the demanding hard work of distributing the food and clothing, of training men to become a volunteer fire department, training for a Haitian program like ALERT, and of managing the vast crowds for medical care and more without their help. It was heart breaking to turn away hundreds of patients each day. The ALERT men had a risky challenge to do this for several hours each morning. The medical team sought to see about 500 to 600 patients each day. Hundreds were turned away each day without treatment as they had no dated tickets that were handed out by the local pastors.

I saw things that I have only read about. The plan worked well as orchestrated by Dr. Ty Hopkins. The medical clinics were stationed in six large tents along with a converted cooler container now serving as a surgical suite. The local pastors helped in casting out demons. Their follow-up work is essential for long term effectiveness.

Some of our nurses and staff saw a man stoned to death in the marketplace. He was stealing from a merchant. Apparently, in Haiti, if you even touch a person who is about to die or has died, you have to assume responsibility for making arrangements for the dead body.

It was reported that four men were shot and killed on the dock near the ship. As a counselor, I was able to counsel some of the staff as they processed some of their feelings about these events.

I was able to serve as a chaplain for the medical professionals – praying with them – holding their arms up so to speak. I was able to fly on the newly purchased helicopter that was donated to Friend Ships. I spent some good time with Don Tipton – the founder of Friend Ships as he shared with me his passion and plans for the future.

Please read Friend Ship’s book titled – Jesus & Company. This is an awesome story of how God blessed the Tiptons and staff in securing several ships and then being used for twenty years offering humanitarian aid. In the future, Friend Ships plans to go Honduras, Haiti, Israel and hopefully to Cuba regularly but always be available for disaster relief. I have been asked to help them build up their volunteer medical disaster relief team. If you or anyone you know would like to know more about this opportunity, please contact me at 615-238-4035 or go to our www.medicalmobilizers.org web site. More information is available at www.friendships.org

I am so grateful for all of you who prayed and for those who gave to the $1,000 needed to make this trip. (As I mentioned previously, with Friend Ships, your cost is primarily the airfare). Please continue to pray that God will bless some seeds that were planted. As always, those who went to volunteer were greatly blessed.

I would also appreciate your prayers that we can strengthen our regular financial support in order to take the next step. We are working some solutions with the development of Healthy Initiative Ministries (www.christianwellness.org) but we must continue to depend on financial support from churches and donors.

I have been asked to consider a trip to Valladolid ,Yucatan in Mexico with the International Medical Assistance (www.ima-missions.org) for a site visit of their new hospital / clinic / warehouse being constructed by Dr. Roberto Rodriguez and IMA. Roberto, a general surgeon and a good friend, wants me to see this facility and their medical missions trips so I can be better able to mobilize some medical professionals to their work and country. Your financial support will help make this possible. Will you please consider joining our support team?

My vision for this unique work (medical mission coaching) is to help the individual find the best organization/ trip suited to their interests, time, talents, skills, desired geography and resources. There are hundreds of organizations seeking for volunteer medical professionals. My role as a recruiter / chaplain / mobilizer is to know and trust many of these organizations so I can effectively send them volunteers. Please do share news of our web sites.

Specific Prayer Requests:
1. Healing for my broken collar bone (right shoulder). Don't ask. This happened on a recent Boy Scout ski trip.
2. Funding for ongoing development of Healthy Initiative Ministries - www.christianwellness.org
3. Praise God that our son Joshua made it through boot camp at Ft. Knox. He is now a proud American Army Calvary Scout. He will not be deployed at this time but will attend monthly guard duty weekends. He is praying about his next missions trip this summer. He hopes to join a team from our church going to Cape Town, South Africa. His cost will be $3,100. Your prayers and sponsorship is needed.
4. Please pray for Penny and Laura as they volunteer for our church's home missions trip to KY in mid-March. We need to raise $200 for this trip. Please designate your gifts to the MM Missions Fund. This is an annual event for our family.
5. Pray for God to bless the plan to offer some healthcare consulting services soon.
6. Pray for more people to join the membership of Christian Wellness Association at www.christianwellness.org
7. Pray for all who saw God's Church (His work force) work so well together in Haiti. Pray for ongoing work there.
8. Please pray as the number of requests for resources / coaching is increasing daily.
9. Pray about becoming part of our support team. We need to grow our base of prayer and financial support.
10. Please pray more people will benefit from the various affiliate programs helping to support us and MM.

URGENT PRAYER NEEDED (dated 3/1/05)

Please pray for crewmember Stuart Ver Wys. He just returned on the "Spirit of Grace" from Haiti. He has contracted Cerebral Malaria and is battling for his life. The enemy has assigned a spirit of death but we cancel that assignment by the blood of Jesus Christ. The next 24 hours are critical. We speak LIFE! Please stand and join with us in prayer.  See updates at www.friendships.org.

Medical Missions Coaching - Friend Ships is just one of many mission agencies for which we can coach you to volunteer your time and skills. As you prayerfully respond to God’s call to go and serve across the waters or here in our country, please know there are resources to help you overcome your fears and for getting properly equipped. I recommend Bruce Steffes’ Handbook for Short Term Medical Missionaries. You can find this at www.brucesteffes.net/handbook.  You can reach me on my cell at 615-238-4035 for assistance, resources, coaching, counsel and prayers.

Medical Mobilizer’s Updates

A Lively Update for January, 2005

Dear Friends,

"What on earth are you doing?" No, seriously, what are you really doing to accomplish God’s Plan here on earth? So many set goals at the beginning of a new year but have a hard time keeping them beyond a few days. One of our pastors recently shared that his goal - his life mission - never changes. Based on Philippians 3:10-11, his mission is "that I may know him (Christ) and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings..." The mission of The Navigators is to "know Christ and make him known". To accomplish God’s Plan - you need to know the Plan. Someone suggested that one of the best books he has read is Doing Business God's Way: Almighty & Sons by Dennis Peacocke. Published by REBUILD, 1995. The new edition includes a new chapter entitled "The Essential Threefold Cords that Will Lead to Your Success." The author provides eleven master principles upon which businesses should be built. He teaches the difference between riches and wealth, leadership and management, as well as God's view of money and private property. This is must reading for any Christian business professional.

The first page offers a framework that helps us make sense of life, work and ministry. Peacock writes that God’s Plan is the Gospel; God’s Blueprint is the Bible; God’s Work Force is the Church and the CEO is the Holy Spirit. Do you know the Plan? Are you in touch with the CEO and doing what He asks you do? Are you in the right job doing what you have been uniquely trained to do? Are you engaged in ongoing on the job training? Peacocke suggests that the weak link is the Work Force (we are humans, you know). The Church is weakened for many reasons. The Gospel, the Bible and the Holy Spirit are the stable and strong components. If you are like me, you want to be part of the solution - not part of the problem.

Let’s work together as fellow warriors in the work force and get the job (The Plan) accomplished. Peaccoke suggests that part of the reason for the weakness of the work force is that we are mainly concerned about our retirement plan (eternal security in heaven). What employer would hire someone whose main concern was his retirement benefits? Our main concern should be to know our role in the proclamation of the Gospel. How is the Gospel lived out in my life, my family, my work? How do I make sense of the recent tsunami in Asia or other disasters throughout the world. Those events happen not "because" of such and such.. but "so that" God’s will - Plan - will be accomplished. This has been the message of our pastor’s sermons lately. Let’s be ‘so that" people confident in the One who created it all for His own Glory.

(Here is my personal letter announcing the upcoming missions trip to Haiti February 5th -12th.)

January, 2005

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Ron Lively, Executive Director of Medical Mobilizers and Christian Wellness Association. I hope you are doing well in this new year. Personally, I am camping out in Galatians 5:16-26 this year as I resolve to live by the Spirit, be led by the Spirit and sow to the work of the Spirit. Thus the reason for this special letter.

The purpose of this communication is to share with you the exciting news that I am stepping out in faith to participate in a strategic medical missions trip to Haiti in early February. I leave on February 5th and will return on February 12th. I am writing you to ask for your pledge of prayer and your financial support for my participation in this specific missions trip.

I was pleased to share our booth at the recent Global Missions Health Conference at Southeast Christian Church (SECC) in Louisville with Friend Ships based in St. Charles, LA. Most of you have read my comments in recent Updates about this ministry. You can go read these Updates on our web site at www.MedicalMobilizers.org.  I am pleased to be going as well as coaching Lynne a member of SECC who is volunteering for this same trip. This will be her first medical missions trip. I would appreciate your prayers for her trip and that her support will be pledged quickly.

In my role as a medical missions coach, Dr. Ty Hopkins, medical director of Friend Ships, invited me to participate on the second week of their two week trip to Haiti . We concluded that the exposure would be valuable to the ongoing work of helping them build a disaster relief team – a group of people who will be ready to go when the next disaster comes. You can find more specific information about this ministry on the web at www.friendships.org. I am finishing up the book titled Jesus & Company, which is the true story of the development of the Friend Ships ministry. I strongly encourage you to get this book from their web site. Your faith will be strengthened as you read story after story of the unique ways God miraculously provided for them – not just in the small things but even with huge ships just right for their needs.

In faith that God will provide for the necessary expenses, I have booked my flight from Nashville via Miami to Port-au-Prince. I will be joining a team of other health care professionals for the last half of this two week medical relief and disaster response in Haiti . We will be meeting with the FS staff and team who have already arrived there to provide spiritual, physical and emotional relief to some of the disaster victims. I will be serving in whatever way needed including support of the staff as we minister to the Haitian people. In addition, the Spirit of Grace Ship was full and overflowing with food, clothing, fire trucks, medical supplies, and more (the ship will hold 4,000 tons of cargo).

Dr. Ty Hopkins, medical director of Friend Ships, writes -

"Friend Ships is a relief organization committed to advancing God’s kingdom and meeting the needs of the hungry and homeless. Our medical department is devoted to medical relief and disaster response. In times of natural disaster, there are great needs spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Our goal is to meet these needs with the resources God provides. We partner with local churches in the disaster area to minister to and disciple those we serve. We set up a mobile medical unit, a mobile food-service unit, temporary housing, and a large tent complex for ministry. Real ministry happens. Real needs are met. People move closer to Jesus. This is what it's all about. In September, hurricane Ivan forced its way though the Caribbean and made landfall on the Gulf Coast . Friend Ships responded as soon as possible with emergency relief and personnel in Pensacola, Florida . While we were in Pensacola , hurricane Jeanne struck Haiti , a country already suffering greatly. There is great need in Haiti right now and God is calling us to go meet the needs of His children and share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Friend Ships vessel, Spirit of Grace, will sail to Port-au-Prince , Haiti in mid-January. With the help of volunteer doctors, nurses and others we will offer free medical clinics from January 29 to February 12, 2005. We provide all transportation, lodging, and meals. One simply needs to get there and bring a servant’s heart."

Please understand that Haiti is a country in great turmoil. The United States Bureau of Consular Affairs urges U.S. citizens to avoid travel to Haiti at this time due to the volatile security situation. Friend Ships will do their best to create a secure environment but cannot guarantee complete safety. They recommend making this mission only if you feel the Lord is calling you to make this trip. I renewed my passport and secured about $200 of necessary shots, etc.

We will see a lot of poverty, brokenness, bondage, and pain. With other like minded servants we will be doing the work of bringing hope, healing, resources (fire trucks, food, clothing, medicines, etc.) freedom and the love of Christ and HOPE of salvation(the Gospel) to those who are His children and those have yet to know Christ. A recent report from the United Nations Development Program described health care in Haiti as nearly catastrophic. One of every three deaths in Haiti is that of a child. With most people earning less than $1 a day, many do without medicine. Death during childbirth is the second leading cause of death among women, H.I.V. rates are climbing, and tuberculosis is common. We are going with a mission to be of help to these people made in the image of God.

My total expenses will be approximately $1,500. A number of you have contributed about half of that need. Funds given above what is needed will go to MM’s Medical Missions Fund to help future mission trips.

Will you please offer your prayer support? I know that some of you might not be able to give funds, but please consider praying for me, as well as for the safety and effectiveness of the entire mission team. Your prayer support is essential..

Will some of you please participate on our team as financial donors? That too is essential for the success of this mission trip. Your financial gifts made payable to Medical Mobilizers provides the support to cover the expenses. It also gives you a sense of participation in missions. You will receive a tax receipt for you gift. Please mail your gift made payable to Medical Mobilizers to P.O. Box 682385 , Franklin , TN 37068 . Mark your donation for Ron Lively – Haiti. Thank you.

Because of the love of Christ,

Ron Lively - Executive Director

Update on Spirit of Grace - Friend Ships - The Spirit of Grace Ship made it safely to Haiti. This ship which is 40 feet longer than a football field was full of tons of food, clothing, medical supplies - even a few emergency vehicles. God has blessed this mission in many ways already. There will be a Pastors Conference. The medical team which will start seeing patients on January 31 expects to treat over 5,000 patients on this trip. The Haitian government is graciously hosting Friend Ships and the United Nations is providing escort security to unload the cargo. People and cargo have begun to flow to "Grace Village". If interested in this mission, you can get a daily update at www.friendships.org

Medical Missions Coaching - Friend Ships is just one of many mission agencies we can coach you to volunteer your time and skills but mainly your willingness to obey God’s call to go and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I am eager to help build a medical disaster relief team for Fiend Ships for future disaster relief trips. Please let me know if you wish to be added to that relief team to be called upon in time of need.
